| “Principles for Structuring a Portfolio” Investor Education Part 2 Department: Adult Location: Alfred Noble Library "Principles for Structuring a Portfolio" is part of a first-of-its-kind, consumer education initiative funded by a grant from the Investor Protection Trust, Washington, DC, www.investorprotection.org association with the Michigan Office of Financial and Insurance Regulation’s "Investor Education in Your Community" program. www.michigan.gov
This non-commercial, intermediate-level course is most beneficial to individuals, trustees/fiduciaries and allied professionals who are interested in a plain-English overview of the process and principles involved in structuring a purposeful, organized and well-diversified portfolio composed of individual stocks, bonds, mutual funds and ETFs. This three part course covers the following topics:
• The Evolution of Investment Management
• Stock selection
• Bond strategies
• Mutual Funds and Exchange Traded Funds
• Step-by-step process for structuring a portfolio
• Group discussion and practice portfolio building
Participants will be guided through the learning process by financial professionals with many years of hands-on experience, without a sales pitch or solicitation of any kind. Registration is necessary for this three part course which will be 5:30 – 7:30 PM on (Part 1): Tuesday, October 20, 2009, (Part 2): Monday, November 2, 2009, (Part 3): Tuesday, November 17, 2009. | Zeemo the Yo-Yo Man Location: Friends of Livonia Public Library As Yo-Master Zeemo, Paul Kyprie shows his flair with Yo-Yos and spin tops. He will demonstrate fascinating skills with yo-yos at this free Friends of the Livonia Library sponsored program.
Coming back by popular demand, Zeemo will provide a thoroughly entertaining program for all ages. Professional yo-yos, unavailable in stores, will be for sale after the show at $5.00 each.
Join us afterward for refreshments in the Michigan Room, adjacent to the auditorium. |

| The Caring Tree Department: Children's Location: Civic Center Library November 16 - December 14. The Children's Department of the Livonia Civic Center Library is once again participating in a program to collect new books and toys for distribution to area children during the holidays. We invite our patrons to get a tag from our Caring Tree, each tag represents a child in the Livonia area. Bring the tag back with a NEW unwrapped toy or book by December 14. The toys will be distributed by the Livonia Goodfellows to ensure that "no child in Livonia is without a Christmas". Donated books will be presented by the Gift of Reading Program to needy at-risk children in the metropolitan area. This program, which was started in 1987, has helped more than 500,000 Michigan children discover the pleasures of reading. |
