  • 2014 Summer Reading Program

    Celebrate the joy of reading at the Livonia Public Library’s annual Summer Reading Program! Kids (who have completed grade 6 and younger) can register at any of the three Livonia Libraries beginning June 16. Once you register, read or listen to a book for at least one (1) hour per week and track your progress on your reading log. The program runs through August 2 and offers some exciting rewards:

    Free Book!
    Children who read a total of 35 hours (15 hours for children who have completed grade 2 and younger) or more AND visit the library to check in between June 16 and August 2 will each receive a free book and certificate!

    Free Entertainment!
    Participants are invited to attend our exciting weekly programs. Please check the schedule below or call your local branch for more information.

    Prizes!
    Registered participants are automatically entered in our library raffle to win great prizes at the end of Summer Reading. Those who meet their reading goals will also be entered into the Grand Prize Drawing. Click here to see a few of the prizes you could win!

  • SUMMER READING KICK-OFF: ROBOTOPIA
    All ages welcome
    You’ll be saying “Domo arigato, Mr. Roboto” when you kick-off Summer Reading at the Civic Center Library with the Livonia Warriors robotics club! Meet a few robots and even operate select models through an obstacle course. No registration required. And don’t forget to take advantage of early-bird registration for our Summer Reading Programs.

    FAMILY FUN STORYTIME
    Recommended for ages 2 - 6, but all ages welcome
    Wednesdays June 18 through July 30 (no program July 2) at 7:00 pm
    Stop by the library for a fun-filled half-hour of stories, rhymes, and more. Stories and activities are geared for children ages 2 – 6; however, parents and siblings are welcome. No registration required.


    WHERE IN THE WORLD HAVE YOU BEEN?
    For kids 12 years-old and younger
    Monday, June 16 through Saturday, August 2
    Every library is cool in its own way and we would like to encourage you to visit another library while you are out and about this summer. If you do, and bring in a picture of you along with the name of the library and the town, we will give you a FREE book (one book per child limit). Pictures will be displayed at the Livonia Civic Center Library.

    Grades 3 through 6
    Saturdays, May 3 and 17 and June 7 and June 21 from 2:00 to 3:00 pm
    Meet new friends, bring your favorite children's book (no teen titles, please) to talk about, share a snack while you listen to the other kids' favorites, and also talk about the scheduled book of the week. Call (734) 466-2493 to sign up for one week or any of the four weeks, and get new ideas of what to read next! Here's what is scheduled, so you may want to read these before hand:

    TODDLER PICNIC AND PLAYDATE
    Recommended for ages 2-4. Siblings welcome
    Wednesdays, June 25 through July 30 (no program July 2)
    from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm
    Bring your lunch and join our picnic outdoors while we listen to songs and stories. Afterwards, hang out together, share toys, and play with our water table. In case of rainy weather, we’ll picnic inside the library. No registration required.


    SCIENCE/STEAMPUNK SCAVENGER HUNT
    Recommended for all ages
    Monday, June 16 through Wednesday, Aug 27 during normal library hours

    SMASH, CRASH, BOOM!
    All ages welcome
    Tuesdays, August 5 through 19 at 12:15 pm
    Join us for stories and skits on the lawn and some super-sized science demonstrations, including the return of the largest slip & slide you’ve ever seen on August 12. And don’t miss the 7th Annual Watermelon Drop on August 5 as we kick off our summer story time! Once again we use a bucket truck in the Gravity vs. Watermelon face off! No registration required.


    SCIENCE/STEAMPUNK SCAVENGER HUNT
    Recommended for all ages
    Tuesday, June 17 through Saturday, Aug 30 during normal library hours
